Achieving Your Goals
Schizophrenia shouldn’t stop you from working to achieve your goals. By setting goals and taking your medicine as prescribed by your doctor, you have a better chance to work toward your goals.
Having goals can give you the motivation to get better and stay better. Talk with your treatment team and family as you begin to set your goals. They want to see you succeed and will help you work toward accomplishing them.
Additionally, think about the steps that will be needed to reach these goals. This will allow you to see improvement along the way.
Here are some things you and your treatment team can do together to help you reach your goals:
- Get you started on a medicine that is best for you
- Track your progress regularly
- Discuss your results from time to time
Short-Term Goals
Short-term goals are things you want to do in the next few months that may help you work toward your long-term goals.
Here are some examples of short-term goals:
- Staying out of the hospital
- Meeting 5 new people
- Attend local support groups and introduce yourself
- Reading for 20 minutes a day
- Get a book or magazine that you find interesting
Long-Term Goals
Long-term goals are things that you most want to achieve in your life.
Talk to your family and treatment team about ways to achieve your long-term goals. Focus on the steps required to reach them, and talk with your treatment team and family to get help and support.
